📖 An old miner diamond cut, also known as an "old mine cut," is
an antique, handcrafted diamond cut from the 18th and 19th centuries. It is the precursor to the modern cushion cut and is prized for its unique, warm glow and vintage charm. Since each stone was cut by hand, no two old mine cut diamonds are exactly alike.
The name "old mine cut" originated in the 1800s when new diamond sources were discovered in South Africa. Diamonds from the "old mines" of Brazil and India were distinguished by their warmer color and characteristic chunky cut. The cut was intentionally designed to maximize sparkle under the low light conditions of candlelight and gas lamps, which were common during the Georgian and Victorian eras.
